Counting Blessings

This film documents SHEN’s father’s quest to find authentic images of the Tibetans. Deeply influenced by Russian realist painters, he sets achieving realism as the goal of his career, depicting Tibetans as one of the main subject matters of his paintings. Through the figure of SHEN’s father, who pursues realism rooted in innovative Chinese ink practice, the relationship between China and Tibet, and East and West is brought to light.
