drawing machine “Plakatzeichner”

This interactive work features an armlike device set up on a stand. A pen is attached to the tip of this mechanical arm. When several pieces of tape are placed randomly on a sheet of white paper, the arm reacts: similar to a Spirograph, it begins to draw abstract graphics in the white spaces between the pieces of tape. The machine is programmed to produce dynamic, humanlike movement. It enables man and machine to interact freely and without restraint. Different abstractions of one formal principle are created in quick succession.
