KURATA Kogoro was born in Tokyo in 1973. He won a special merit prize in the 1991 FROM-A-THE-ART competition and held a solo exhibition, launching his career as a contemporary artist. He directed the stage design for The Marriage of Figaro at the New National Theatre, Tokyo in 1999, and attracted notice for his work on a full-size Scopedog for the animation film Armored Trooper VOTOMS (2005, Sunrise). He also created the free-kick soccer machine Castrol Ichi-go (2012, Castrol), which set a new kick-speed record entered in Guinness World Records.
