1951 Born in Odawara, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. 1973 He studied Japanese Literature in the School of Letters at Tokai University and graduated. 1979 Yumemakura's first publication, Nekohiki no Oraorane ("Oraorane, the Cat Player"), was published by Shueisha Cobalt-Series. 1982 He released the Chimera series from Asahi Sonorama when he began working in earnest as a writer. 1989 Yumemakura won the 10th Nihon SF Taisho Award for Jogen no Tsuki wo Taberu Shishi ("The Lion Who Ate The Quarter Moon"). 1998 Kamigami no Itadaki won the 11th Shibata Renzaburo Award. 2000 Onmyoji (Sorcerer), illustrated by Reiko Okano, won the 5th Osamu Tezuka Cultural Prize.
