All the things my father lost

MATSUDA Hiroko [Japan]

An essay manga about a late father who was simultaneously loved and hated. A father who grew up not knowing his family loves his wife and children, but when he fails at work and falls into poverty, he starts to irritate them. From the perspective of a daughter who saw him up close, the story describes her father’s obsession with his family and his lonely suffering, along with asides, as if jotting down sporadic feelings.
