boorupen KOJIKI

KOUNO Fumiyo [Japan]

Outline

The Kojiki, Japan’s oldest book of mythology, was compiled some 1,300 years ago. This faithfully rendered manga version references the original manuscript (as transcribed into Japanese from Chinese). By using a “silent manga” technique and presenting the stories in a series of richly imagined pictures, the work entices the reader into a world of classical literature that tends to be seen as overly difficult. What emerges is a mythological realm with a human scale and universal appeal that is highly suited to our times.
