Reason for Award

A Shinkansen train departed Yamagata Station. Usually, the image goes from one side to another when one uses a train for his or her presentation. However, in this work, the movement goes towards the center from the edge of a circle like a spinning-top. It is impressive that the expression of nature and the city is different and the movement of pale Japanese ink is beautiful. When the Shinkansen accelerates faster, viewers’ eyes are made to spin. It is like being drawn into a black hole. Once one sees this work, it becomes very difficult to remove one’s eyes from it, which is amazing. The simple setting is successful where the train starts in green Yamagata and gets closer to the urban area. The film ends with a view of a sign which says “Tokyo”.
