MaedaKaruta

This animated work introduces a game of karuta (Japanese playing cards) played in the reverse of the usual order. Instead of hunting for a picture card that matches the text on a reading card, the viewer is first presented with a picture, followed by the reading card three seconds later. Featuring plenty of wordplay, the readings are full of surprises. The work is also a study in how to utilize time intervals in animation.
