Referencing the Chernobyl disaster, this story tells of a young girl evacuated from Fukushima, site of the March 2011 nuclear crisis, who vows that upon her return she will plant cole flowers there. Other stories in this volume similarly confront the issue of nuclear power and accidents in an unflinching manner, including the SF trilogy “Mme. Pluto,” “Night of Rain: Count Uranus,” and “Salome 20XX,” which feature plutonium and uranium as “characters.
