Outline

This graphic art depicts images that welled up in the artist after the Great East Japan Earthquake that struck Japan on March 11, 2011. The artist supplements the multi-material collage techniques in which he specializes with a variety of colors to create a pale and mysterious iconography. Using the motif of the yoni (female genitals) and lingam (male genitals) of Shiva, the Hindu god of destruction, this religious imagery offers a Japanese perspective on a life force that keeps surging up even in the midst of great damage.
