The second installment of a comic book series by the celebrated European cartoonist. Born to a Syrian university professor and French mother, six-year-old Riad begins school in Syria. As a first-grader, Riad learns Arabic and the Qur’an, endures corporal punishment and bullying, and grows aware of the difficulties of the Islamic world. The story follows lionhearted Riad through a year of his life in Syria under the dictatorship of Hafez al-ASSAD.
