Reason for Award

A white box is placed in the center of a dark space, on which blue light changes its patterns when people around it move, producing an unrealistic atmosphere. Square dents are placed in a matrix inside the top panel covered with a thin white cloth, and when propellers in each dent start spinning, the white cloth is lifted slightly by the wind, spreading soft blue light emitted from inside each dent. The idea has intriguing unpredictability, and it was surprising to find that a propeller like a taketonbo (a T-shaped flying toy made of bamboo) could produce such changes. Here, analogue materials of wind and a cloth are fully brought to life.
