UDA Michinobu [Japan]

Outline

This electronic musical instrument has a three-dimensional interface, emitting sound when you push a rope wrapped spirally around a handheld cylinder. You can change the volume and pitch according to how hard and where you press. Lacking timbre-changing and auto-performance functions, the Udar resembles an acoustic instrument. Each circuit of the rope represents one octave. Playing the Udar requires practice, but with time you can perform all kinds of melodies on it.
