Entry Requirements

Please confirm that your entry satisfies all of the following conditions before submission.
  • Basic conditions

    Entrants must own copyrights for the works they submit.
    Representatives submitting works must obtain consent from the copyright holder.

    * Consent from the entrant and creator are considered to be obtained when applications for entry are submitted.   
    * Please read and consent to the rules and special conditions of entry before submitting entries.

    Works may not contain the following types of content.
    ・As a public facility, the museum does not permit excessively violent expressions, sexual expressions, or any other expressions that violate public order and morals.
    ・Miraikan is unable to screen video works that seek to publicize or advertise merchandise (including corporate logos and names of merchandise) or the like; such works are ineligible for selection.
  • Already completed or released video works for spherical surfaces or domes

    Works completed between October 6, 2018 (Sat.), and November 29, 2019 (Fri.), or previously completed works released within this period

    * Updated or renovated works completed or released within this period may be entered.
    Note that works submitted for the Festival Platform Awards cannot be submitted for awards in the Art, Entertainment, Animation, or Manga categories. Works submitted for awards in any or all of these four categories as well as the Festival Platform Awards may be declared ineligible for selection for both.

    It must be possible to convert or adjust the submitted work to the prescribed format for screening at exhibitions of award-winning works in the event that it wins an award.
  • Video works to be newly created for the spherical exhibitions at Miraikan (planned/unfinished works)

    The work must be created and completed in the prescribed format for screening at exhibitions of award-winning works in the event that it wins an award.

Materials for Screening, Submissions

The submitted work will be reviewed based on both the registration information and submitted materials.
  • Common Requirements for the Geo-Cosmos Category / Dome Theater Category

    Images of works

    Images and sketches that show the images to be projected.

    * Please use the designated template for the Geo-Cosmos category.

    Script

    A summarization of the scenes and flow of the story.
    For music and sound effects, include the scenes and images they will be used with.

    Sample video (optional)

    Samples should not exceed the length of the final video.
    Geo-Cosmos : 50-70 seconds
    Dome Theater : Approximately 3 minutes

Final productions after awards are announced

If an entry wins an award, the work must be created in one of the following formats.
Entrants who submit finished works must adjust them in order to comply with the following formats.
(Entrants who submit finished works can use the actual machinery and equipment to preview their works. Entrants wishing to do so should contact the contact person. No usage fee is required for machinery and equipment installed at Miraikan; however, entrants must bear other costs.)
  • Geo-Cosmos Category

    • Length of video work 50-70 seconds
      Data format Record the video data in serialized PNG files, and submit the audio data in separate files. For details, follow the prescribed format explained below.
      Playback of works Works are played on a player designed specifically for the Geo-Cosmos system. Miraikan will handle the task of recording the submitted data.
    • Prescribed format : Video

      Resolution Up to 6204×3102 (px)
      Map projection method Equidistant cylindrical projection
      Frame rate 30 fps
    • Prescribed format : Audio

      Channel Two-channel stereo
      Compatible formats WAV, AIFF, Apple Lossless

    * Color reproducibility and brightness In principle, entrants are free to use whatever colors they choose. However, we may make adjustments such as slightly reducing the brightness of whites to avoid screen burn on the organic EL panels. In addition, the characteristics of the organic EL panel devices may cause blues and other colors to change when projected onto Geo-Cosmos.

  • Dome Theater Category

    • Length of video work Approximately 3 minutes
      Data format Record the serialized Dome Master files, and submit the audio data in separate files. Regarding details, follow “the prescribed format”.
      Playback of works Works are played on a player designed specifically for the Dome Theater.
    • Prescribed format : Video

      Resolution Up to 4K x 4K equivalent max.
      Format Dome Master format (aspect ratio 1:1)
      Frame rate 30 fps or 60 fps
      Movie codec H.264
      Container format MP4
      Stereoscopy 2D or 3D
    • Prescribed format : Audio

      Channel Up to 8.1 channels (7.1 channels + Top)

    * The projection system is scheduled to be updated in the future. Accordingly, more detailed specifications will be given after awards are announced.

Technology Briefing

The briefing will be held to explain technology for creating videos for the Geo-Cosmos and the Dome Theater.

Description

Geo-Cosmos
The briefing is centered on a demonstration by Miraikan staff members to explain the characteristics of the Geo-Cosmos projection system while screening the Geo-Cosmos content. The staff members will provide an overview of the projection system, and screen a sample video which enables attendees to confirm the appearance of colors on the display, content speed, text size, and the like.

Dome Theater
The briefing is centered on a demonstration by Miraikan staff members to explain the characteristics of the projection system while screening content.

* The briefing will be conducted only in Japanese.
