The young boy Isao, who came from a rural town in Miyagi Prefecture and had no relatives, had a memory of having seen a god-like being in the instant that he was born. Not attending school and scorned by everyone, Isao meets Masahiko, who is his classmate and whose father is a doctor. Masahiko was fascinated by Isao’s mysterious power, which he demonstrated at the deathbed of his former teacher. The two of them decide to go on a journey in order to search for the god-like being whom Isao once saw. This is an ambitious work, which tackled the profound themes of life and death, and miracles, even while the author was experiencing the Great East Japan Earthquake during its writing.
