This work depicts the mountains of rubble produced by the Great East Japan Ear thquake in life-size scale. The artist has attempted to convey the reality of the rubble in both image and substance by layering oil paint atop a photograph. The work’s size, an element that cannot be exper ienced through other media such as video or text, further imparts a sense of reality.
