BIND DRIVE

This digitally animated film, based on a popular enka; Japanese ballad, was drawn using Photoshop and a graphics tablet. Against a backdrop of scenery from Toride City, Ibaraki, where the artist lives, a man and a woman in the form of an angel and a devil weave a melodramatic tale unfolding in an endless loop. With a sharp eye and an outstanding hand, the artist depicts the desolate landscape of rural Japan, the footpaths between rice paddies beneath a constant falling rain and the tired old houses, in creating the mysterious incongruity and lingering disquiet that characterize the enka world.
