CINEMA – writing letters in a camera obscura
Media performance
KIMURA Noriyuki [Japan]
Outline
This work consists of a performance and a video recording of the performance. In a room darkened to become a camera obscura (pinhole camera), the performer adjusts the position and angle of a mirror, reflecting the sunlight that enters the space. Letters are written with the trajectory of the sun’s image over approximately three hours. The recorded video is replayed at 100 times normal speed to make the letters “CINEMA” emerge.
