MATSUNOBU Takuya / KAKEHI Yasuaki [Japan]
Outline
An installation that uses a shape-changing liquid to incorporate the Weissenberg effect, a phenomenon wherein agitation elicits bulging in the surface of a non-Newtonian fluid. From its initial placid appearance, the fluid transforms freely into pixelated and then more organic forms. The title references an incantation said to have been invoked with a stirring of the seas, causing the water to protrude and form islands in a passage in Kojiki.
