For a decade starting in 1979, around 20,000 people from Mozambique were sent as labor- ers to East Germany as part of its national policy. When forced to return home after Ger- many’s unification, they were berated as “mad Germans.” This graphic novel portrays three fictional people based on stories the author heard from individuals involved.
