Outline
The subject of this work is Fort Canning Hill, a location steeped in Singapore’s history under British colonial rule and Japanese military occupation. During his stay, inspired by his experiences with tai chi, vocalizations, and other “body in space” activities, the artist photographed 11 giant trees, controlling his bodily movements in order to fling his camera straight up. By capturing the artist’s own physical motion, these photographs explore the connections between body and space, past and present.
