Outline
This is a research project focusing on the relationship between body movement in dance and digital technologies. The project is made up of four parts exploring the theme of digital muscle memory. In the first part, based on the movements of dancers in Summer Storm (1973) by Japanese Butoh artist Tatsumi Hijikata, the contractions of dancers’ muscles as they move are converted into electrical signals and digitally stored, then reproduced in the bodies of experimental subjects. Through the use of cutting-edge digital technologies, the project speculates on the possibilities of motor areas that can become part of body memory.
