This digital archive depicts life during wartime based on information from the Battle of Okinawa, which occurred at the end of the Pacific War when Allied forces invaded the islands. The work not only makes use of U.S. military records and topographical maps, but also first-hand accounts, footprints left by fleeing local residents, and the distribution of war dead to create a multilayered presentation. The interactive website shows how Okinawa has changed over the last 70 years.
