Outline
These Timescan Photographs of cityscapes in New York, Berlin, Tokyo and Prague were taken by exposing successive segments of a single frame from left to right using a custom-made digital scanner camera. The use of a technique similar in principle to a focal-plane shutter results in moving objects appearing visually warped, while static objects appear as they would in a conventional photograph. The image shows the continuous flow of the moving object, thereby creating a diagram of time in a picture that frees photography from the limitations of “moment-based” imagery and transforms it into a “time-based” medium.
