Sound installation
OWADA Shun [Japan]
Outline
A sound installation using limestone rocks containing fossils of fusulina, an extinct marine organism that flourished several hundred million years ago. The fossils preserve calcium carbonate that once formed the fusulina’s shell. When this is released as carbon dioxide, it emits a tiny sound. The work thus links our sense of sound with a substance that encapsulates time and history far beyond the human scale.
