A Box of Signs

Outline
Dots of light float in a 2.5m-high black box. Viewers sense a sign of a life-size human presence when some dots move with regularity. Cognitive psychology has developed the concept of biological motion, in which movements of an organism are perceived only from a few dots representing joints, and its practical technology has been used in animations, for example. The signs of presence generated by applying this knowledge give some strain to viewers.
