MONSTER HUNTER FREEDOM 2

Video game [Japan]

TSUJIMOTO Ryozo,
Representing the MONSTER HUNTER FREEDOM 2 development team

Outline

A hunting action game where a player becomes a hunter and hunts a giant monster which appears in Mother Nature. This is made up with very detailed images and a maximum 4 players can cooperate and fight using ad hoc functions.

Reason for Award

It used to be the case that when people grew out of Pokémon, they tended to grow out of video games altogether; it was a big problem with the potential to create stagnation for the game media. Times have changed with the appearance of the MONSTER HUNTER FREEDOM series, which is thought to be promoting the Play Station Portable as a game console, but there is more to it than that. The series offers exhilarating action, the satisfaction of collecting and producing items, as well as multi player collaboration through wireless communication; by themselves, each of these factors has been seen before, but combined in one game, they exhibit a powerful attraction. This can be seen as a model example of game production.
